CONNECTICUT'S SPECIAL ECONOMIC DESTRUCTION GROUP
SHUT............................THEM...............................DOWN.....................NOW!!!
May 12, 2020 - Perhaps better known as the Reopen Connecticut Advisory Group, they have crossed the line as of May 12, 2020. They are now doing more harm than good to Connecticut. Look for vague discussions and projections about "excess deaths" that no one can reasonably explain. Look for a growing list of bankruptcies among small businesses that they will ignore. Look for a swelling crowd of angry residents in Connecticut demanding their lives back.
The lawsuits have already started, and more are coming. And the group? What about them? Are they taking any of this into consideration? Not on your life. Don't expect to find out anytime soon. They are perfectly happy to function behind tightly closed doors, protected by the state apparatus. Transparency is a dirty word for them. As it should be. What they are doing and not doing would anger and disgust any reasonable person. But reasonable people here are nobodies; the peasants are to be ignored.
They have been meeting in some form, in some fashion, since around April 16, 2020. What do they have to show for their efforts to make Connecticut "safe" and to save lives. Well, here are the statistics, and they are ugly.
Connecticut is #7 on the hit parade for Covid-19 deaths, so said. As of May 12, that would be 3,041 deaths. Interestingly, Connecticut is #8 in the nation at population density at 741 people/square mile according to 2015 data. Some have suggested population density is a factor. The higher the density, the higher the death rate and percent of population infected. Confirmed cases are 34,333. By the way, all this data is from two sources. The population density data is from the U.S. Census for 2015, and the rest is from the Corona Virus Tracker, put up by RealClearPolitics.com.
However, Connecticut is #2 in the nation for the fatality rate (deaths/cases) at 8.86%. The honor for killing more people per case, aka rendering the worst possible quality of health care, the #1 spot goes to Michigan at 9.73%. New York, the epicenter, the Wuhan of America, is 7.79%. Wow, Connecticut just seems to keep winning some prize as being among the worst at something. Good job, Governor Lamont. Good job, Reopen Connecticut Advisory Group. You folks, you geniuses, you highly credentialed incompetents need to pack it up and go home.
By the way, Michigan's population density is 175 per square mile. That is 23.6% the population density of Connecticut. So, that is one example where the population density argument does not work. Given all the things that Connecticut sucks at, Michigan sucks at this four times as bad. Be proud.
Don't worry, there is more. On confirmed cases per one million population, Connecticut firmly holds the #5 spot with 9,629.8 confirmed cases per million. Oh...My....God. We got beat out by measly little Rhode Island with 10,963.2. But THEY get muscled out by Massachusetts with 11,415.5 cases per million. But that's OK. New Jersey has got a lock on that #2 spot with 15,992.2 cases per million population. Phew! What could be the explanation for those killer stats? Ah, the #1 spot. Is there any guess? Could there be any confusion? Nope, it's New York alright. They win the booby prize at 17,922.4 per million. Now that wouldn't have anything to do with that policy of sending Covid-19 positive seniors back into nursing homes, now would it? Nah, the governor said he never said that. Yeah, and he never lied too.
Well, this makes for quite the backdrop for Governor Lamont and the Special Economic Destruction Group. I am getting repetitive, but I might as well ask the question anyway. Do they care? No. If they could admit to their failings, they would find competent people to replace them. But they think they are the competent ones. To twist a phrase, they are killing us with their incompetence.
This is my first gentle appeal to the people of Connecticut. If you want to get our economy going again while following common sense guidelines, without all the ambiguity, confusion, and mind-boggling micromanagement of the Special Economic Destruction Group, there are one of two things to consider. The first is to make reasoned appeals. If that fails, then it is time for civil disobedience in the style of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King.
Since late April, as new data came in, it was obvious that original assumptions about the pandemic were wrong. It was also obvious that the states which took a more measured approach, such as Florida and Texas, were getting better results. Have our friends in the Special Economic Destruction Group learned anything? Instituted anything? Nope. All they have done is sow confusion and mistrust. They need to pack it in.
The message to Governor Lamont is simple. The term Consent of the Governed means something. When you lose that consent, you lose your authority, no matter how much violence you impose on the people of Connecticut. You have an opportunity to get it right, but you don't have much time.
The other steps are already opening up. Get with it and do the same.
